CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1
Background of the Study
Human resources management is a
process of making use of materials and human resources to accomplish designated
objects.
It involves the organization,
coordination and evaluation of people to achieve those goals. Human resources
management in all industries of the world from past to the present is the strength
towards productivity.
In any manufacturing industry, the
aim is to achieve maximum efficiency in production and to achieve this, the
salaries and wages of the employees should commensurate with the activities
they perform. If the salaries of the employees are very low, this becomes a
problem in production efficiency. It is important that people should be
involved in making decision on matters affecting them vis-à-vis the
manufacturing industries and also where they are able to contribute joint
consolation, committee, meeting, joint unions and management committee should
be maintained upon a basis by which considering the welfare of the individual
enable all those involved to engaged in the undertaken to make their maximum
contribution to the effective working of that undertaken. To derive efficiency
and welfare human management in a manufacturing industry.
This study therefore investigates the
need for human resources management in the manufacturing sector using Nigeria
Breweries Plc Ibadan as a case study.
1.2
Statement of the Problem
In the manufacturing industry in Nigeria, there
have been several problems of inadequate and inconsistent condition of
employment of workers, which often is against the national labour congress
policy inadequate health facilities and medical attention, which is the basic
necessity for every citizen. Also bias recruitment drive and favoritism in
selection and placement of staff parade our manufacturing industry. Also, lack
of adequate communication and follow-up between management and staff are also
experienced in the industry several other human resources management problems
also erode the industry and list is mending lack of adequate educational
requirement for employment, low demand for specialized skills in terms of
engagement and placement of staff inadequacy in services, training facilities,
poor facilities and welfare packages for workers, lack of motivation to staff,
indiscriminate disciplinary action and victimization of stag, unfriendly
relationship amongst personnel and management of organization etc.
On the other side of the coin is the
reduction in the output of the manufacturing sector, which can be directly
attributed to the low level of productivity in the sector. The industry
continues to account for a reducing share of its contribution to the Gross
Domestic Products (GDP) of the nation as a result of low and reducing capacity
utilization in the industry. Two problems have been highlighted here: poor
human resources management and low productivity in the manufacturing industry.
This study will therefore aim at investigating if there exist a relationship
between resource management and productivity in the manufacturing sector of the
nation.

Lastly,
to find a solution to the problem of human resources management in the industry
1.4
Research Hypotheses
That there is no significant
relationship between human resource management and productivity in the
manufacturing industry.
1.5
Research Questions
A questionnaire will be used to
carryout the research based on the following research questions

staff and other forms of labour incentives be improved with an industrial
organization or environment?

and medical attention in the working environment?
c.       Should there be effective communication
flow between management staff and other workers within a working environment?
d.       Does in-services training has any benefit
in a working environment?
e.       Does poor and inefficient output in any
manufacturing industry relate to poor welfare?
1.6
Significance of the Study
There are several answers to many
frequently asked questions that this write-up will give human resource
management and productivity in a company are two important factors that should
be duly addressed in any forward looking firm. The problem, of poor inputs
either as a result of inadequate factors of production like land, labour, is
one of those factor of production, it is therefore important to study effect or
impact of skilled and unskilled on the productivity of the industry, holding
all other factors constraints this study will effect a remarkable change in
communication system between management and staff of any organization. After a
careful evaluation of deficiencies in dissemination of management information
with the system.
